Why choose Solwat?
Renewable energy systems design can be quite specific. Whereas conventional gas boiler installation practices are quite general, air/ground source units need much more consideration. This is where Solwat has the experience and expertise to help you.
During our MCS compliant design process, we carefully consider the heat load which gives us the general heat requirement. We then consider the heating type and characteristics, for example, some emitters may require a slightly higher temperature to work efficiently. We will balance what is an efficient heat pump temperature to deliver a comfortable room temperature.
We also consider the demand for your domestic hot water. Using current standards and regulations we can determine the minimum capacity. We then further assess the satisfactory heat recovery time of the hot water.
Solwat is also able to deliver MCS accreditation through our industry partners – we provide fully compliant MCS design details, registration assistance, and on-site commissioning.
Where installers have their own accreditation we can simply provide the documentation or just the heat pump units.

Tailored heating systems
Solwat partners with some of the industry’s most respected manufacturers, who in turn recognise our detailed design service. We integrate products and systems from a range of manufacturers e.g. We may source our air source heat pump from one manufacturer and our plant room controls from another. As a valued customer you will benefit from our expertise in designing custom integrated systems bespoke to your requirements.
We have supplied a high volume of domestic projects and a wide and varied range of commercial projects. Our customers include plumbing and heating engineers, renewable energy installers (MCS registered installers) and housebuilders.
Renewable technology appraisals
As independent consultants, our first service is to provide you with a detailed, pragmatic appraisal of your options for renewable heat and power. Solwat will advise you of the technologies that suit your circumstance – and those that do not. All buildings and homeowners differ in their characteristics and requirements and so every situation should be considered in its own light.
Heat loss calculations and assessments
Understanding the heat loss characteristics of your building is key to successful renewable energy design. There is no point installing an inadequate heat pump system in an un-insulated building with old radiators unless major changes are made to the fabric of the building.
Solwat has the skills to analyse heat loss and gain for buildings of all sizes and types. This is achieved through detailed room by room inspection and by using approved Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) calculations. The results of this analysis is used to illustrate the renewable heat technologies capable of maintaining the required room temperature for you and your family at the right price.
For domestic renewable energy systems, heat loss calculations are essential for compliance with the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and are required in order to receive payments as part of the governments Renewable Heat Incentives (RHI) policy.
If you are confused or have queries regarding MCS, the RHI or the Green Deal then please give us a call and we will be happy to guide you through the various procedures and help you on the road to replacing your existing gas or oil heating system with a modern cost-effective renewable alternative.
